Avatar: The Verdict

Finally I got to see Avatar, the movie everyone else saw months ago. Was it the best movie of 2009 then? No. It was however the visually most beautiful movie. But to call it the best movie would be like calling Independence Day the best movie of 1996. Patriotic nonsense is patriotic nonsense no matter the package. I wasn't disappointed with the movie though. It was just as I expected.

Couldn't agree more! :)

I think you were blinded by the visuals cause you obviously missed the point of the movie. It was very non-patriotic. The US agression against far less technologically advanced countries were vulgarly displayed here as well as the "We're here to help but in the end we're after their natural resources"-routine. This movie was about the little guy fighting back.
Maybe you saw the movie i 2D and the message was hidden in the third dimension, i don't know. Very non-bad movie.

No, I don't missed the point of the movie. I don't think anyone could miss the point of the movie. The only reason this movie was made was to show of all the technical stuff and all the visuals. The story, or the lame excuse of one, came in last place when it came to planning this movie. But hey, they succeded. They truly showed that all it took was some great visuals to dazzle people and make them shout 'movie of the year' when the story was as weak as any b-movie.

I never claimed it was a well written story, i agree that this was a visual experience first and foremost. I just reacted on the acusation of it being patriotic nonsense when it for once was a mega budget movie that wasn't shoving US propaganda down our throats, but rather the opposite.

I see what you mean. But at the same time, who is it that in the end saves the day for the people on the planet? Well, isn't it the all-american ex-soldier to the rescue? I wouldn't have any problem with the movie if the people had won the match on the own strength and not because of the newcomer who also (of course) wins the girl's heart. But hey, I have not problem with other people liking the movie. I just think it was madly overrated.
