So it's that time a year again. Time to run down the list of movies I've seen during the year, and yes, it really is just a list. Haven't really been a great movie year if you ask me, but I've seen some good movies (and quite a few bad ones). I think my favourite movies this year was The King's Speech, The Fighter and Snowtown. Worst movie? Too many to even mention I'm afraid, but let's all agree that Knight and Day was really crappy. I will end here with a bit of news. Beginning tomorrow, all movie and tv posts will be on a separate blog. strictly moving pictures is the name, and it will be just that. Hope you will like it.

The Ides of March

The Ides of March

Review: I really liked this one. A terrific political drama that growls with low tension and the cynicism of the disillusioned. George Clooney have once again directed a great movie that has a good storyline, nice settings and an excellent cast. You should definitely check this one out.

50/50

50/50

Review: 50/50 is based on a true story. It tells the story of a guy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who finds out that he has cancer and how he battles the illness. It's a quite warming darkish comedy with once again some good heartfelt acting from Gordon-Levitt. The thing that annoys me about this movie though is the casting of Seth Rogen as the best friend. Come on guys! Haven't we all had enough of his loud-mouthed crudeness? I know that I have at least. He more or less takes over movies, and destroys them with his one sided acting. But don't let that turn you away from the movie though. It's worth checking out if you want a warm quite cute comedy. I wasn't quite in the mood for it myself though.

Hesher

Hesher

Review: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an actor that just seems to get better and better. Not all of his movies are that good though. Hesher is a promising movie that after a while feels like most indie movies out there. And even though there are some good acting from Gordon-Levitt and Rainn Wilson, the movie isn't really going anywhere. And even though there are some good actors in it, they have a crude, predictable and quite uninteresting script to work with. Too bad, because on paper it could have been good.

Snowtown

Snowtown

Review:

A couple of friends have mentioned this movie lately so I thought I ought to check it out. Snowtown is based on a true story about the Snowtown Murders that took place in South Australia in the 90's. I usually don't get very emotionally affected by movies, but this one took its grip on me with its unvarnished and brutal portrayal of the people involved in the murders. At the same time as I got my stomach in knots, I was also taken by the great acting and the beautiful craftwork that made this film one of the most interesting ones I've seen in quite a while. See it, but remember, it's not a feelgood movie.

Drive

Drive

Review: It feels like I've seen every movie that Carey Mulligan has been in these last few years. I like her acting and her role in Drive is no different. This is probably one of this year's most hyped movies. Don't really know why to be honest. Sure, the cinematography is really beautiful, the acting is good and there's really nothing wrong with the direction either. The story on the other hand is quite weak and I had trouble staying focused while watching it. Far from a bad movie but the people involved have done better, Ryan Gosling (Lars and the Real Girl), Carey Mulligan (Never Let Me Go) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Pusher).

Conan the Barbarian

Conan the Barbarian

Review: I know. It's a remake of Conan the Barbarian from 1982 for God's sake. It's not meant to be a masterpiece. But I mean, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a better job at playing Conan than Jason Momoa. Jason is basically just here doing the same role as he did in Game of Thrones. And Rose McGowan? Worst acting I've seen by anyone in a long time. Lots of blood though, but the effects are really lame and the movie bored me after about 3 minutes. Waste of time.

Bunraku

Bunraku

Review: Bunraku felt like a cool interesting movie for a couple of minutes. Kind of like a choreographed stage production of Kill Bill mixed with Sin City. Unfortunately the movie was 124 minutes long so quite soon it shows that surface is the only thing this movie got. Poor script and bad acting.

Waiting for Superman

Waiting for Superman

Review: Waiting for Superman is a documentary that deals with, and analyzes the failures of American public education. It is an interesting movie that shows that even though money usually the reason why many schools fail, other reasons are also teacher's unions, contracts and bureaucracy. But most of all what makes this an interesting watch is how it shows that even though there's no easy sollutions, many people out there have ideas that might in the end save the education system.

Hanna

Hanna

Review: Hanna is the movie of an 16 year old assassin trained by her father with one goal, to kill her mother's killer. The cast is good, especially Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett. It wants to be some cool Euro thriller with a bit of a different angle. Unfortunately the movie don't quite manage to pull it off. It justs ends up as a too long trailer with many promises, but no real result. Nice soundstrack by The Chemical Brothers though.

Trolljegeren

Trolljegeren

Review: Do you have trouble sleeping? Watch Trolljegeren. It worked for me. But the movie was not without merit. I liked the dry humour and Otto Jespersen as the troll hunter is fun to watch.

Adulthood

Adulthood

Review: Adulthood is the follow up to Kidulthood. It takes place 6 six later and follows some of the earlier characters lifes. I don't know what to say really. I felt like there was something missing, and I guess it was the same thing that was missing in the first movie. You don't really feel anything for any of the characters and you don't really care what happens to them. I think I prefered Kidulthood to be honest, but I guess if you see that one you might as well see this one too.

Kidulthood

Kidulthood

Review: I liked this movie to begin with. Good acting in general, interesting story to begin with and a great soundtrack and all of it taking place in West London. Unfortunately towards the end it became more and more cliché and the ending was anything but original. Watchable though.

Brighton Rock

Brighton Rock

Review: Good actors and a classic book. That's the reason I wanted to see this movie. It was a real sleeping pill though. Not engaging in any way and quite annoying actually.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern

Review: I like superhero movies. I just don't like superhero movies with really crappy actors. So I didn't like Green Lantern because Ryan Reynolds is really crappy. Logical right?

Red State

Red State

Review: Ever since I first heard about this movie over a year ago, I've been looking forward to seeing it. Kevin Smith is one of my all-time favourite movie makers, and the news that he was going to make a horror movie really got me excited about Red State. And today I finally got to watch it. It's the story of three teenagers who get an online invitation for sex and, being stupid teens, they take it. But they then find themselves the hostages of a psychotic Christian fundamentalists with disturbingly sinister agendas. That the Westborough Baptist Church is the inspiration behind these Christians is quite obvious. I wasn't too sure that Kevin Smith might pull off doing a horror/thriller flick, but boy was I wrong. This movie was better than I'd even hoped, and it once again shows why he is one of the most underrated movie makers out there.

Submarine

Submarine

Review: This coming-of-age movie really didn't have that much new to offer. It felt like we all seen it before. But at the same time it was worth watching due to the actors, especially Craig Roberts in the lead role and the adorable Yasmine Paige. Looking forward to seeing them in more movies.

Attack the Block

Attack the Block

Review: When I first saw the trailer I was a bit sceptic, but I'm glad I decided to check it out. Imagine Critters meets South London meets Simon Pegg. Low budget, but highly entertaining or to say it like in the movie; it's mad wicked bruv!

The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer

Review: Not a very good or interesting movie based on a novel of the same name written by Michael Connelly. And yes, Matthew McConaughey is a boring actor.
