Comb & Prosperous - Lamashtu

Not a lot of people have 12 solo releases behind them. Prosperous from Gothenburg, Sweden have just released his 12th. Lamashtu is a an EP consisting of 5 tracks produced by himself under his producer alias Comb. I have done my share of writing about Prosperous here on the blog, and that is something I will do as long as he keeps making music. I will always be one of his biggest supporters and fans, and Lamashtu just cements my respect for him. Like most of his music, it demands quite a bit of the listener to sit down and really give it the time. But it's worth it, I promise.

Flash Bang Grenada - 10 Haters

Two of today's finest emcees, Busdriver and Nocando, have joined forces under the name Flash Bang Grenada. Busdriver has been one of my favourite emcees for a long time so I'm always happy to hear his flow. Here we get it over 8-bit tracks that is many ways reminds more of video game soundtracks than regular hip hop beats. And it's fitting since Busdriver and NoCanDo's flows is more than just regular hip hop flows. It's a bit twisted, a bit weird and all funky. This will never be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure is mine.

Jellyfish Brigade - Gills and a Helmet

Up until a week ago I had never heard of Jellyfish Brigade. But if there is one thing I love, then it's discovering new music. And Jellyfish Brigade is truly part of that category. Gills and a Helmet is a 6 track EP filled with great music. This duo has produced really heartfelt, innovative songs that feels very refreshing. Paranoid Castle - Champagne Nightmares

I have to start out by saying that I totally missed out on Paranoid Castle's debut One Way Ticket from 2004. So if this album is a logical development or not since then I have no idea. I do know though that Kirby Dominant is a stable emcee and his other earlier work with Factor have always been worth listening to. Kirby's playful flow rides easily on top of Factor's productions. The problem with a whole album from the two of them is that there is too much of the same thing. Never bad, but too light and easily digastable in some way. Like a friend of mine said, it's perfect music to play in the background. So what then is the real problem? Well, to me it's Kirby Dominant. I think that his vocals never really catches the attention and I seem to start thinking of other things while listening. I would probably have enjoyed Champagne Nightmares more if it had been a strictly instrumental album. But still, too light weight for me overall.

Candy's .22 - A Girl and Her Gun

Existereo (or Stereo13 as he seems to call himself nowadays) have been one of my favourite emcees for many years. He has both skills and a persona that outshines most people, and his work with The Shape Shifters have forever cemented his legacy as part of one of the best crews of all time. Back in 2005 he joined forces with Barfly to record as Candy's .22. The album Livin La Vida Boo Hoo was filled with Factor produced joints that all held a very high standard. Six years later they have now chosen to work with different producers throughout the album, and I think that was a wise choice. Deeskee, Self Advocate and Scobra amongst others serve up 19 smoking tracks for Stereo13 and Barfly to flow over. As always with these two emcees we get a subject matter dealing with storytelling, drugs, violence, sex, alcohol all served up with a wicked sense of humour. We luckily enough don't get too many guest apperances on the album, but Metfly, Mickey Avalon, Fatlip and 2Mex all do what they do best and lends extra brilliance to the album. Grimm Image Records have definitely delivered once again.

Moshe - The End of Sacrifice

Moshe. Label head at Milled Pavement Records as well as producer extraordinarie when it comes to dirty, evil beats. Ever since the release of L'Chaim back in 2004, he has gone forward both as label owner and producer. This year he lets a bunch of other producers loose on his old material and the result is The End of Sacrifice. It's really interesting to see how different the tracks sounds in the hands of people like Joel Siméus, Nomar Slevik, zöen, Mike Clouds and mattr. While the essence of each track very much is still there, they have all put their own special touch on the music and the result is an album that spreads over a wide range of styles and moods. The interesting thing though that is still works as an album. The soul of Moshe is ever present through out the album and leaves me with the feeling that here we have a musician that deserves way more attention than he gets at the moment.

variex. - Past Life Discourse

Past Life Discourse is not really an album in it's usual sense, but also more than just a mixtape. It's a collection of tracks by variex. made between 2006-2011. Some of them have already been released, but most of them are previously unreleased. And I'm really happy that he decided to put them out now. Because what is fascinating about this record is that there is not one single bad track on it. He serves up 18 tracks filled with amazing music. And the people he has worked with here is an impressing list in itself. MC Homeless, oskar ohlson, AndrRomak and cars & trains are just a few of them. Myn Dwun - How to Rob Herb Land Vol. 1

Myn Dwun's How to Rob Herb Land Vol. 1 is not a easily digested piece of music. It's dirty, distorted and filled with weird twists and turns. And I have to admit, after the first listen I wasn't really convinced. It didn't sound bad, but it didn't really catch my attention too much. But then I listened to it some more and it kind of opened up more with each listen. And the more I listen to it, the more I started to enjoy the songs and the productions. It will never be a straight forward album to listen to, but it is however a good album and that's what counts.
