Review: X-Men. Always simple entertainment. But also effecient and good entertainment. Perhaps nothing that one remembers in the long run, but for an lazy Monday evening at home it's kind of perfect.

Gescha - Crayon Politics

 
I have to admit that Gescha is a completely new name to me. Lucky for me though he reached out to me last week and hooked me up with his album Crayon Politics. Some people might know Gescha from The Intelligentlemen. This is the first soloalbum from this Canadian artist and it's a good one. Gescha got a really nice flow and the productions that are done by Factor and Muneshine holds a high level of quality as usual. It's a really nice album with a laidback summer feel to it, and I can envision myself nodding along to this album in my hammock. If I had one that is. Gescha surrounds himself with some nice guests such as AWOL One, Gregory Pepper, Moka Only and Kay the Aquanaut. But he don't really need them to make this a good album. It's solid from beginning to end, and I know that I will bump this one quite a lot this summer. Wanna check it out? Review: I finally got around to watch The Adjustment Bureau. I've been wanting to see it since I first heard about it, but at the same time couldn't really be too bothered to do it until today. And it was good. A bit predictable perhaps, a bit cheesy, but at the same time very entertaining and very well made. Kind of like a light version of Inception. I liked it.

DJ Shadow @ Göta Källare

Watching DJ shows is rarely something I do. It's no real excitement watching a DJ standing there behind his decks and mixers all night. And I think that is something that DJ Shadow knows too. So when he comes to Stockholm for the first time he brings his Shadowsphere and blows us all away with not only his music, but also with brilliant visuals. To get a little taste of what it was like I here post a clip from an earlier show. The sound is so-so, but you'll get an idea about the visual effects. Verdict regarding last night? Two thumbs up.

Review: Priest is based on the Korean comic of the same name. A priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece. I stole that last sentence from IMDB. Couldn't be bothered to come up with anything on my own. The movie is not really worth any brain activity. Anything redeeming about the movie? Well, it looks ok at least.

Face Candy - Waste Age Teen Land

This is kind of a tricky album to review. Tricky because it was one of the last things that Micheal "Eyedea" Larsen recorded before his tragic death last year. It's always a bit of sensitive ground to tread on. I liked This is Where We Were when it dropped in 2006. At that time the group consisted of Eyedea, Kristoff Krane, Carnage and Mazta I on vocals and J.T. Bates and Casey O'Brien on bass and drums. Since then Carnage and Mazta I has left the group so on Waste Age Teen Land all the vocals are done by Eyedea and Kristoff Krane. What we are getting is freestyle on top of improvised music. All 4 are masters of what they are doing, and it's a joy to listen to them. But at the same time it's music that never really captivates me. I enjoy the freestyle flows and the pure brilliance behind them, but as a record I soon get bored. This is in no way a bad record, far from it. It's wonderful to see a bunch of artists doing exactly what they love. But at the same time it's not a record I will listen to much in the long run. Perhaps just not quite my cup of tea.

Review: Boy, that was one crappy movie. Bad actors, badly done and just plain lousy. Lucky for me I was bored stiff even before watching this movie, so I can't say that it ruined my evening.

Gel Roc - Beautiful Tragedy

Gel Roc is an west coast legend who's been around for quite a while, dropping both solo stuff as well as being a part of EX2 and Three Eyed Cowz. He's just about to release his new album Beautiful Tragedy on Abalano Records and it's a treat of lyricism and great beats. We get 16 tracks of classic west coast underground productions, and great guests such as Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Neila, Joe Dub and Awol One. The thing that this album might lack is those stand-out tracks, but the level overall is very high. This is hip hop that is way better than 99 % of what's out there today. Support good music and creative artists, buy this album when it drops on June 14th.

Review: I really don't know what I think about this movie about one of Sweden's greatest musical legends of all time. I mean, the acting and the script is good. It's nice to see Hans Erik Dysvik Husby (more known as Hank von Helvete from Turbonegro) doing such a great portrayal of Cornelis. But somehow the movie is lacking something. It feels a bit shallow and it doesn't really grab your attention. Too bad, I had hoped more. Still worth watching though.
